The Janitorial Worker is responsible for performing custodial duties and light maintenance on city facilities after hours. Expected work hours will be less than 30 hours per week. Monday through Friday 4:30 pm - 8:30 pm. This is not a regular, full-time position and only those benefits required by law will be provided.
A Day in the Life:
* This position performs routine building and park maintenance primarily involving the cleaning of buildings, restrooms and rental shelters.
* Cleans and maintains floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, vacuuming, shampooing, striping, sealing and polishing.
* Gathers & empties trash in and around the buildings.
* Removes graffiti from buildings and other park amenities using various cleaning products.
* Cleans and polishes furniture and fixtures.
* Clean windows, glass doors, and mirrors using cleaner's sponges and squeegees.
* Dusts furniture, walls and equipment.
* Prepares cleaning solutions by mixing water and detergents, including acids, in containers according to manufacturer specifications.
* Monitors building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours, turning on / off security alarms and checking electrical appliances for potential hazards.
* Notifies managers concerning the need for repairs to building mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
* Remove snow from sidewalks, driveways and parking areas using snowplows, snow blowers and snow shovels, and spreads snow melting chemicals.
* Monitors and orders supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
* Sets up and tears down decorations, tables, chairs, ladders and scaffolding to prepare facilities for events such as banquets and meetings.
What You Will Need to be Successful:
Education: A high school diploma or GED is required.
Experience: One year of similar or related experience is preferred.
Certifications/License: Must have a valid Kansas driver's license at the time of hire.
