GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs a variety of reference, information, and interlibrary loan functions under the supervision of the Reference Supervisors. Does related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF WORK (illustrative only):
- Provides reference and information services
- Provides reader's advisory services and bibliographic instruction
- Assists with creating, coordinating, and promoting library services, special events, and displays
- Performs online searching
- Assists with maintenance of reference collections (books, documents, serials)
- Assists patrons with library materials, microforms, computers, and equipment
- Assists with interlibrary loan requests and procedures
- May assist with collection development in specific areas
- Assists patrons with computers in the Reference area, including instruction in online databases and services
- Assists with general shelving
- Cataloging
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Basic knowledge of modern principles and practices of library organization, procedure, policy, materials, aims and services; knowledge of technical library and database maintenance tasks; initiative; resourcefulness; good judgment; orderliness; accuracy; tact; adaptability; ability to get along well with others; ability to communicate pleasantly and effectively with general public and library staff. Regular attendance and punctuality is essential.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:- College or equivalent combination of college and work experience required (Bachelor's degree preferred)
- Knowledge of current technology required.
- Some evening and weekend work required
- Kansas driver's license may be required.
- Meeting the physical demands of the position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION:Lifts and carries up to 25 lbs.
Pushes up to 60 lbs. of books on carts
Sitting, standing, walking, climbing, and stooping
Bending, twisting, and reaching
Talking and hearing
Handling, processing, picking up, and shelving of books and materials
Keyboarding, writing, filing, and sorting paperwork
EQUIPMENT USED: Typewriter, cash register, desktop computer, laptop computer, telephone, fax machine, photocopier, paper cutter, audio/video devices, data projector, book scanner, image scanner, color printer, microfilm reader, Kindle
WORK ENVIRONMENT:This position operates mainly indoors in an office setting and in direct customer service situations. There will be some travel required and some work outdoors at programs and events. This is a fully on-site position.
