Make a difference with the City of Hutchinson!The Seasonal Construction Technician performs skilled maintenance, repair, alteration, and remodeling work on municipal buildings, offices, and other city facilities. This role requires expertise in multiple trades, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, roofing, painting, concrete, and masonry. It troubleshoots and performs complex building maintenance tasks involving specialized systems, following instructions from a supervisor, Specialist, or Master Tradesperson, who inspects the work during and after completion.A Day in the Life:Skilled Trade Work* Performs skilled work in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, roofing, painting, and concrete/masonry to construct, repair, and maintain city facilities, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations.* Repairs or replaces defective parts in machinery, equipment, physical structures, piping, and electrical systems in city facilities; modifies existing systems as needed to improve functionality.Preventive Maintenance and Troubleshooting* Implements and performs preventive maintenance on equipment, systems, and structures to prevent malfunctions and extend their lifespan by conducting routine inspections and evaluating work orders.* Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and resolves issues with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural systems by testing, visual inspections, and using diagnostic equipment.* Operates machinery and equipment to determine the cause and extent of component or system failure through testing, visual inspection, and listening equipment to detect malfunction.Safety and Compliance* Conducts safety inspections of equipment, systems, and work sites, identifying and correcting hazards to ensure a safe working environment.* Safely operates a variety of hand and power tools, heavy equipment, and machinery necessary for completing assigned tasks, adhering to operational and safety protocols.Documentation and Record Keeping* Prepares and maintains detailed maintenance records, work logs, and reports on completed tasks, including documenting warranties and inspections.* Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, and other documents to complete installations and repairs accurately.Team Collaboration and Support* Assists Master Tradespersons and other skilled workers with complex maintenance tasks, contributing to a team-oriented approach to facility upkeep.* Collaborates effectively with other staff to address maintenance needs and ensure the timely completion of projects.What You Will Need to be Successful:Education: A high school diploma or GED is required.Experience: Three (3) or more years of responsible experience in building and mechanical equipment maintenance and repair, with proficiency in multiple trades.Certifications/License: Must have a valid Kansas driver's license at the time of hire.The City of Hutchinson employs over 400 employees that serve our community every day.
